Sunlight

We read in Genesis that God made the sun to rule the
day and the moon—the lesser light to rule the night (Genesis
We could not live without the sun. It gives the earth light
and warmth that brings about growth in the plant and animal realms.
What the sun is to our natural world, Christ is to the
spiritual world. Jesus said to his disciples, “I am the light of the world.
He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have
the light of life” (John
When we walk in the light we will live in truth,
righteousness and forgiveness. John the apostle described what it means to walk
in the light as Christ is in the light:
1 John 1:5-10
“This is the message which we have
heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness
at all. If we say that we have
fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the
truth. But if we walk in the light as He
is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is
not in us. If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. If we say that we have
not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
NKJV
God the Father gives the earth light through the sun
and Christ, the Son of the Father, gives us spiritual light through the word of
God. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalms
119:105). This spiritual light through the word is absolutely essential for
our spiritual growth and health.
Let a person be absent from Bible Study and Worship on a regular basis, and that person will shrivel up and die like a plant in a dark room. Let all members of the body of Christ become serious about serving Christ and become a “light in the world!” And let the church be “a shining city on a hill that cannot be hidden.” Copyright © 2009 Shelby Floyd, All Rights Reserved
