The Wages of Sin

The problem of sin has plagued the human family from the beginning of time. Paul taught the “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

What Is Sin?

For the most part, people deny that there is such a thing as sin.  But the Bible declares and defines sin as real. “Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness” (1 John 3:4).  Sin is breaking the law of God and breaking the law of God is sin.

The word sin comes from a word that means to “miss the mark” or “veer away” from the target. We sin when we fail to hit the “bull’s eye” of God’s word!

What Are The Consequences of Sin?

The first effect of sin is to not know and understand the true identity of God (1 John 3:6).  The second result of sin is separation from God (Isaiah 59:1-2; Ephesians 2:12).  Paul declares that “the wages of sin is death(Romans 6:23).

What is The Remedy for Sin?

Christ is the remedy for sin. “But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin” (1 John 3:5). The death of Christ on Calvary is the atonement that has made salvation from sin possible (Romans 5:8-9).  An alien sinner appropriates the benefits of this remedy when baptized into Christ for forgiveness. A child of God who sins applies this remedy upon repentance, confession and prayer to Almighty God! Copyright © 2011 Shelby G. Floyd, All Rights Reserved
